Ay ay ay...

Well, friends and family, I am swiftly approaching the end of this grand adventure...

Laura, Me, and Shelley - my Athens roomies!

This past week was our week off to travel and relax and explore. I visited some family in Mexico city and had a wonderful time!!! Right now I'm counting down the hours until I leave - literally. Right now it's almost 9pm Friday and I leave for the airport at 4am on Sunday. I leave Cholula in 31 hours. And I arrive in Columbus, Ohio in 38 hours or so. This is all very exciting and sad.

I am sooooo excited to see my family, my puppies, my friends, my car! I am so sad to leave behind this beautiful town, this perfect weather, this awesome food. I am glad to bring back with me some great souvenirs, amazing new friends, lots of photos and a ton of memories.

I'm sorry I didn't send out postcards. That's the one thing I fell through on... but when I'm back in the states with reliably fast internet, I will upload all my photos and share with you the link. I'll also post on here the video I have yet to make with my raw footage... So stay tuned for that in the near future.

Anyway, until next time... may your drinks always be cold, may your friendships always be warm, and may you one day be lucky enough to spend time here in Cholula, Mexico.

Love,
me

Another big update!

Well, hola! Sorry it's been a month since my last update... Here's what's been going on in the Mexican life of your favorite shutterbug...

Many fun weeks and weekends have passed, trips to Mexico City (AWESOME), Lucha Libre matches, and a Futbol game would be the highlights...

Above - Yesterday 15 of us went to the Puebla futbol game and had a grand
time. That cup in my hand? Beer. Yes, full of beer.
I love Mexico.
The game was about 2 hours long, we sat in the crazy section full of crazy
fans banging on drums, singing chants, waving huge flags, drinking huge beers...
The game ended tied (we think) 2-2. Maybe 3-3, or maybe we won 3-2.
In any case... it was an AWESOME afternoon and we all had fun.

Above - My friend Meredith and I at the Lucha Libre match a couple
of weeks ago. Note the masks! You know you want one too!
We've decided that back in Athens we're going to have a "Lucha Shuffle"
where we hit the bars in our Lucha masks and Futbol jerseys.
People will probably hate us, but we will have fun and really,
that's all that matters.

Above - Oh yeah, by the way, did I mention Cholula's surrounded by 5 volcanoes.
The one above is our closest one: Popo.
Day before yesterday this is what it looked like.
And after the sun set you could see it glowing orange.
So if I never come back, I love you all!

Just kidding.

Though Popo is overdue for an explosion, it's the type of volcano that will have a lot of (smoke) activity before exploding and covering our town in lava. So we'd have plenty of time to get out of danger. But how cool would it be for my obit. to read: Lacie Turcott, beloved daughter and friend, died running away from a volcano explosion. The last song played on her iPod was "Eye of the Tiger" so at least she went down like a champ...

Haha, we decided that "Eye of the Tiger" would be the perfect song to run away from a volcano to and then made a playlist with a bunch of songs, all upbeat, some about the end of the world, and pretended to be running through the streets of Mexico... That's the kind of people we are.

I hear you guys have been getting some snow, so I hope you're staying warm... I had to wear a sweatshirt yesterday 'cause it was so breezy and it was kind of chilly in the shade. I think today might be a little warmer. :)
